a * finished* sweet spring purse

howdy friends.

Today I have another finished project to share with you!  A few years ago, I was visiting my mom and we visited a yarn shop adventures in knitting and I saw this cute little pattern that I knew I wanted to make

Of course, life was crazy at the time, so I bought IT put away with other patterns for a time when life would be more conducive to creating.

whelp, when I found myself couch-bound post- surgery, I made the executive decision ( cause I’m all important and stuff 😉  ) that it was time to make it.

Last week, I finished!

cabin fever purse

I’m in LOVE with this little bag!
made the handle long enough so that it can go cross-body  ( for those all- important shopping trips)  It’s big enough to hold my phone, keys, lip gloss ( really all- important) and a credit card !

And I am super pleased with my choice of liners

inside of cabin fever purseespecially since I’ve become a biking fanatic

18 mile bike rideyeeah…. this was a blast!

My friend, Jackie, over at As My camera Sees it , posted a fitness- photo challenge today. It s a 12 week fitness challenge that will be documented weekly through photos!

Since I live in such a beautiful area that is unbelievably outdoor- friendly… I’m busy on thinking what my personal challenge will be.

announcement will be this coming Monday!

Something tells me it will have to do with two wheels 😉

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with n up close shot of my new treasure

cabin fever purseoh… the best part about this purse.. all made with SCRAPS! Go Me!

Thanks to those of you who purchased quit raffle tickets in support of Ali’s breast cancer walk… there is still time to buy tickets!  ( check THIS post for pictures of previous quilts)

and good luck!

random nonsense-ness of the eve of Autumn…..

I have much to share.. but be fore-warned.. I’m all over the board today…

***And if my mother were to find out that I was going to post something about cleaning …..  well, mom… be ready ***

( don’t worry, Mom, I only have one tip…I’m still me 🙂 )

back to my tip.  …

Cleaning. I know.. it should be a four letter word. yuck. I have the ut most respect for those who do it as a living. You folks Rock-MY-World!!

For ages we talk about Spring cleaning. But if you do a deep cleaning in the spring, then Mother nature ( no disrespect, madam..) then pollen shows up.. then the humidity of summer gets everything sticky and if you are an avid gardener like Mr barefoot& I are.. well, there are days that there is more dirt on the inside of our house then outside.

I’m a HUGE advocate for fall cleaning.   and by fall cleaning I mean that i clean for a little while then fall down and a take a nap zzzzzzz..

just kidding.

Once in awhile I find a great tip and this, friends, is a good one…

You know how if you have nice **silk flowers or plants they get all dusty & rather scary

I know.. scary.. eh?  How do you clean this? well, you could dust each and every leaf (NOT) OR

you can fill a bag ( paper or plastic)  with Kosher salt. Yuppers. Salt.

just make sure your bag doesn’t have a hole in it.  Don’t ask me how I know this….

once your hole-less bag has salt ( just a big handful per item) place your plant in the bag, close it up tightly &

Shake shake shake… shake shake  shake.. shake your groove thing 🙂

guess what? you just cleaned your plant!!!

and the proof is in the bag.. litterally.

on the right.. the ‘dirty’ salt.. eeiiw……  and on the left, I sprinkled some fresh salt so that you can see the difference.   If you are a fan of barefootgirl in the kitchen on facebook then you know that I proclaimed my addiction of both salt AND pepper.. and this is just one more reason why 🙂

(see mom, it was light cleaning 😉 )

Ok… while I was shopping with a good friend earlier this week she forced me  encouraged me to buy this cookbook stand…

(sorry about the glare..)  and WHY did the NEED to come into my home??

be fore warned.. I’m about to leave you hanging…. although  I’m quite sure a family member of mine might chime in with the answer…..

family?? please don’t let me down 😉

lastly, I’ve spent some one on one time with my sewing machine this week….  but not quilting…. ( although I have many quilts calling for my attention…)  I have been taking wool sweaters & recycling or UPcycling them into something new..

I’ve posted one on barefootgirl in the kitchen ‘s facebook wall, but here is one that I completed today.

I started with this family shawl…

that sadly had been shrunk in a washing machine accident. ( c’mon… we all know it happens)

call me the shrunken laundry ambulance..

this is the second one that I’ve made.   I am LOVING this idea…..  partially beacuse of the whole recycling nature of it…. but I’m into this on another level…..I want to take clothes that mean something to you ( like a sweater from someone who has passed and re-purpose it into something that you will use everyday.

❤ legacys…..  have a sweater that you would like to repurpose? get in touch with me… barefootgirl27@comcast.net

Ok.. thanks for listening to my randomness……  this was only a sliver of what is jumping around in my mind…..

and tomorrow.. I PROMISE you an awesome recipe…. very fall- like 🙂

ciao bellas!!

** although I think that silk plants have their place and CLEARLY I have them in my house, I will always opt for real 🙂

a VERY exciting January!!!

It HAS been very exciting!! mostly because of my new arrival……

my New sewing machine!!!!!.. She arrived this past Friday at about 2:30 pm. She weighed in at about 20 pounds and she is all that I dreamed that she would be.!!.. We are still deciding on  a name for her , so for now we will call her …I’ll get back to you…

I have the quilt top for the ‘Quilts for kids‘ that I was working on finished……

this is a great organization…… for any of you out there  if you contact them, they will send you a pre-cut kit to make your quilt.. all that you need to do is provide the batting .. and the love… They are asking that you match them by making a quilt out of your own stash, but this is because there is such a need for the quilts … so many kids….

I’ve also been working on my circle quilt….. I really don’t have a pattern…. I used a blank CD to cut out the circles… appliqued them on to whit Kona cotton squares ( trying to use up my bobbins from my old machine) …then ….at my daughter’s suggestion, filled in with co-ordinating squares….

this may look like a mess to  you, but I assure you.. this makes PERFECT sense in my head…… really!

I finished a bag for one of my closest friends….

and since I finally gave it to her, I can post this picture…..

I just love my little labels! They make me smile 😉

Last thing that I’ve done is (in trying to use up scraps) made this little square

It is going to be the front of a messenger-style purse for me…(somehow.. I just haven’t figured out how)  I made it with some of my favorite Amy Butler fabrics…….

ok… I’m off to play wii fit with my daughter.. and think of how to turn that square up there in a purse…

Happy Sunday!!!!

A Rainy Saturday in October

First of all, Fenway loves her new quilt

lucky dog… At first she wouldn’t go on to it, I think she thought that she shouldn’t. She has now taken claim to it….

So, for a rainy Saturday..

Perfect for sewing, right? right. Unless you need to take you teenage daughter & her friend to the Mall.. then you find yourself poking around in the craft store for things that you didn’t know that you needed……

like these funky fabrics for one of those totes… The blue will be the base, the brown polka dot will be the top & the green will be the lining….

I think it has potential … 😉

And thank you to Cecelia, who sent me a fairly simple, yet beautiful scarf pattern.. I worked on it in the car on our way to brunch an hour away.. I love the way it is coming out.

Thanks Cecelia!!
Now I am off to piece together the back of my quilt.. I wasn’t thinking abut how hard that would be with the  pattern that I chose…. wish me luck !

Another day….

and I have my first  Frenchy Bag!!

I made this one out of fabric that I had bought a long time ago for… well, I have no idea why I bought this fabric, but I had enough to experiment, so I did!

The inside of the purse is fully-lined with 2 large pockets. There is also a magnetic snap to keep it closed.

When I actually go out to buy fabric to make these, the inside lining will be different but coordinating with the front fabric.

Where this was a practice bag and I had all of this lovely fabric, I just used matching inside & out.

I was going to make a matching small wallet/ key chain holder, but sadly, I ran out of interfacing, so they will have to wait….

My pattern also has instructions for a larger tote bag of the same design… I can’t wait to make that!!

My daughter will certainly give me the hairy eyeball when I show up at her soccer game this afternoon sporting this…..

**ALSO** while visiting Tumbleweed Quilts yesterday, Mary took my picture with 2 of my quilts. You can see these pictures by visiting her blog
