December 4th??

Yes, I realize that today is the 4th ~ I have just started the blog, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t started the cookies!!!!

A few years ago, I had made a lemon cookie for a cookie exchange that I hosted (I’m all about the cookies ;)… Many of my friends commented on them.

The following year, I had another party, and I made Florentines (yum!)…. Well everyone was asking where were the lemon cookies? The problem was, I couldn’t remember what recipe that I had used!!

I promised that I would figure that out before this years’ cookie party. I had many recipes lined up to try, but guess what?? I got it on the first try!!!

This one’s for you Kara *smootch*

Giada’s Lemon Ricotta Cookies

I made a batch & had many  who sampled, and everyone agreed that this IS the recipe!!.. I ran out of confectioners’ sugar, so this batch doesn’t have glaze…… hang tight, the next batch will!

The other recipe that I made was a  Savory Biscotti recipe, also by Giada..  ( youwill see her name come up a lot)

This was a very simple recipe and very , very tasty. You can’t really think of it as a cookie… think of it as an awesome cracker, or soup accompaniment……
I am not too sure about how they freezer, so I have a few in the freezer no to see if they will still tatse as good when thawed….. again

( I’m trying to catch up!!)

shhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Here is the quilt top that I am making for my 8- yr- old niece for Christmas

I have made it entirely of scraps from my ‘stash’…..
many of the fabrics that I used are leftovers from things that I’ve already made her . eg: curtains, pillows, fleece throw.. etc…

It may be a bit loud, but I think that she will love it!

*fingers crossed*

Happy Halloween!

BOO!    Every year, my daughter’s school has a big costume contest….. She decided that she & 2 of her close friends  wanted to be Hershey’s kisses. The satin silver material that I used was a NIGHTMARE to work with… but ALAS….

                                                        A Hershey’s Kiss!!!!

and of course they needed purses to hold their kisses in….

I’m happy to say that I am done working with silver satin 😉

It’s finished!! I *love* love* love* this bag!!

I made it with the new ‘love’ collection  by Amy Butler..
I’m off to Etsy with this one 😉 Making a duplicate for me ..

I made 4 smaller pockets rather than the 2 large pockets that the pattern stated..
It will be a perfect knitting bag!!!

Oh, this excitement is too much for me!!

More Quilts for Kids & bags ;)

A few of the girls finished their quilts on Monday
They asked me if we could do this again in the Spring. Of course I said yes!
The backing for my blooming- nine patch has been more difficult to put together than the whole front of the quilt!!!
What was I thinking when I picked this fabric?  Oh, yeah, it was on clearance!  So try # 6 at matching seams has brought me to this and it is not perfect, but I can’t see it from an airplane, so it is staying 😉 My hope is that once it’s quilted it won’t be that noticeable..
Now I need an extra set of hands to help me sandwich the 3 layers…Can’t wait for the kids to get home 🙂
Breezy,  how do you like these fabrics?  The lighter one will be the base of the bag, the brown the top & the dark purple the inside….
New Amy Butler fabric!!!!!! It’s from the ‘love’ collection for my tote bag..
The fabric is pinker than the picture shows.
Can’t wait to see it all finished!!!!

Yay!! October is here!!!!!

I just got back form a trip to my favorite quilting shop,  Tumbleweed Quilts.
If you ever find yourself on Cape Cod, this is a must to visit. So many wonderful fabrics!! So many designers….

So the wonderful ladies there confirmed what My husband & friends have told me about my blooming-nine patch.. to leave the center fabric that I’m not crazy about alone.

SO after finally making that decision it was time to pick a backing. I was lucky enough to fine this fabric in the close-out room for half -price

I think it will go nicely together.. and at half-price, I couldn’t beat it!

I also bought a few funky fat quarters ~ not quite sure what I’ll do with them, but I just love ’em!!

And lastly, I bought a pattern for an Amy Butler bag that looks oh-so-cute! I will attempt it with scraps to make sure that It comes out right, then I will pick one of Amy’s wonderful fabrics  to make one ‘for-real’..

and that will mean.. another trip to Tumbleweeds!!!!

Time to put the borders on my quilt!! oxox

Teaching girls to quilt with ‘Quilts for Kids’

At my daughter’s school,  I am teaching a group of 7th & 8th graders the basics on how to quilt after school one day a week. They are each making a quilt for  The ‘Quilts for Kids’ organization.

*A GREAT organization, BTW*
