barefootgirlcookies

welcome to the new home of barefootgirl cookies!

I cannot believe that today is already December of 2010! Time sure does fly by…

For those of you who are new to my cookie blog, it is a project that I started last year.

many years ago when my kids were very young, I spent the entire month of December baking a ‘cookie a day’ with my kids , eating some daily & freezing the rest.

When it came time for Christmas Eve, I pulled out a wonderful array of home made cookies.

you can read the whole story here

Some of my friends encouraged me to start a cookie blog last year. I had so many positive response to it & many people wondering if I would continue it this year.

since I am all about traditions and the crazy way that they get started , and the only way for them to get carried on is to continue them,  the cookie blog will go on!!

Quite ironically I have also just tarted the brand-new weight watchers Points plus plan… so this shall be an interesting venture for me.. but I’ve never ben known to back down from a challenge..

that being said…..  it’s cookie time!!!

Our first cookie this year is a version of Mama Pea\’s Peanut Butter cookie dough balls

Her recipe seems to be healthier than mine, but I simply can’t bake without real butter & if I was going to start with changing the butter.. I decided to substitute the whole shoot & shebang.

I’m not going for healthy here, I’m going for taste.

then again, I’m not eating them

that’s what I keep telling myself.

for You will need:

1 stick of butter

3/4 cup peanut butter

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed,

3/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup peanut butter chips

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

(optional) a cutie-patootie to help you in the kitchen

remember Leah from last year? well she was back to help me start the cookie season off today!

We started by mixing the butter, brown sugar, powdered sugar, vanilla &  peanut butter until well mixed.  (ours was not as smooth as Mama Pea’s but I am sure that it is due to the butter.. don’t let this discourage you… carry on…)

in a separate bowl, add the flour, baking soda, baking powder & salt. Use a whisk to mix.

slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet, then mix in the chocolate & Peanut butter chips.

taste the dough. Leah did.

Mama pea actually rolled them into balls & ate as is, which I thought was gross, until we tried it .

I’m serious.. taste the dough… there isn’t any eggs, so go ahead.. I dare ya.

We decided to shill the dough while Leah went to school, then after school, once Ali was home, we turned these into cookies to bake.

well, most of them.

they were a bit hard to roll into balls, because they were crumbly, but I just took a teaspoon size in my hand & sort of just squeezed my hand together to form a small ball. ( don’t squeeze too tightly)

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. They won’t look all that much different than they did going in, but everything heats up & melds together. Let cool for 10 minutes (if you can wait that long)

and

OH
MY

GOSH

what a way to start the cookie season!!!  YOU should make these. I promise!!

Ok.. time to take inventory of the baking supplies.. something tells me I have a shopping trip planned for tomorrow!

oxoxoox

these cookies are to die for.

I saw these on Mama Pea’s blog and others. I’ve been dying to try them. Maybe when I’m done with school stuff I’ll find the time to bake these!

LOL! I also wont eat batter of any kind with raw eggs in it. So gross!!! I think I may need to try these! I am going to quickly share an easy peasy pb cookie! 1 cup of peanut butter (I use all natural Teddy brand but you dont have too!) 1 cup of sugar, and 1 egg. Mix, roll into balls and squish with a sugared fork. Bake 350 about 10 minutes let cool 15 minutes! Thats it!

I absolutely agree! Peanuts and salt!!! Teddy brand is awesome! I have to tell you that I admire you for being such a great Mom. I can tell by how you talk about your children and the journey you have been on. I think its so great that you are a Yoga instructor and really wish I lived closer so you could teach me Yoga! I think the relationship you have with your sister is amazing and beautiful. I find myself wishing I could be apart of something so brilliant that others get happy just listening to the two of you talk to each other. I read your latest blog and I was just so inspired to go and do things that I have wanted to do. SO I am looking for a yoga class and I am not sure what else but thank you for writing your blog and I look forward to reading more.

Aww… your words are so sweet 🙂 I’m so proud of you!! I promise you, yoga will change your life.. remember, it’s not about putting your foot behind you head.. it’s all about the breath.. and moving energy..Check on Yelp for somewhere local & highly rated.. read reviews. When you go for the first time, go a little bit early to fill out forms & let the teacher know your medical history… and above all, HONOR your body throughout your practice. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else ( remember, they are doing a terrible job of trying to be you 😉 Even the gentlest practice, just being on your mat and focusing on your breath for 90 minutes will be amazing for you! Let me know if I can help with any other advice! And yes, I agree, my sister is amazing 🙂 Thank you for your kind words! oxoxo~ shel
